Associate Director, Group Strategy

Job Summary

  • Lead strategic thinking and provide internal strategic and business consultancy to Local Business Units (“LBU”) and Group Office (“GO”) functions that is impactful and value added, focusing on material and/or strategically important initiatives
  • Lead the formulation and evolution, and support the execution of the Group’s strategy (including Propel and Healthcare for long term healthcare opportunities and initiatives)
  • Develop and provide timely leading-edge market intelligence, Intellectual Capital and insights to inform strategic thinking and decision making across the Group
  • Identify potential inorganic opportunities together with LBUs and GO functions’ SMEs and be part of the deal completion and post-completion teams to assist in value capture, optimisation and realisation through challenge and constructive advisory/guidance




  • Support the formulation of the Group’s vision and longer-term strategy to enable sustainable value-creating growth, evolving as appropriate constantly, considering what’s next and need to future proof the business
  • Oversee the Group-level long-term strategy and drive its cascade to LBUs and, where appropriate, GO functions
  • Provide constant and constructive challenge to Local Business Units’ strategies to trigger their strategic thinking and to respond effectively to market trends and Group’s long-term vision
  • Ensure clear goals for all GO functions and LBUs are defined and adopted
  • Define strategy implementation framework, strategy execution process, guidelines and tools
  • Provide active support and guidance on implementation
  • Spearhead strategic efforts and initiatives by leading the strategy adoption and encourage initiatives
  • Build/nurture relationships with external parties (private and public), and professional advisors/experts for strategic partnerships and positioning
  • Ensure the strategy framework is well understood by GO functions and LBUs
  • Strengthen strategy development and execution capabilities in LBUs and GO functions by recruiting talent, delivering strategy development/ project management skills training and providing practical support



The roles are to deliver the above team objectives and there is a strong preference for candidates that bring subject matter expertise, including in one or more of the following segments:

    • China insurance market/industry;
    • Digital;
    • Healthcare;
    • Insurance Distribution;
    • Insurance Proposition Development; and/or
    • Customer Centricity


In addition, the following requirements are a minimum:

  • Undergraduate degree in business-related discipline or MBA preferred. High quality candidates from other backgrounds will also be considered.
  • Interest in insurance industry essential, with prior experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders across the business, including senior levels, as well as external parties
  • Ability to critically evaluate and synthesise information
  • High degree of numerical proficiency, able to effectively analyse and interpret financial information
  • Results-driven with proven track record in driving and achieving results
  • Independent and innovative thinker
  • Effective communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills required
  • Proficiency in other Asian language preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) required
